We believe that career journeys should be as unique and impactful as each one of us here at Synchrony.
Career growth takes more than just opportunity – that’s why we’ve created a Career Growth Framework dedicated to helping our people take actionable steps toward their goals. We co-created and continue to refine the Framework through ongoing conversations with our employees. Who better to tell us what they need for their careers than our own people?
The foundations of our career growth philosophy are strongly anchored in something we call “critical experiences.” These critical experiences provide employees with on the job opportunities to expand their knowledge, skills, and practical wisdom from entry level to senior leadership positions. Part of our culture also includes having leaders share their career journeys through our career mapping tool to highlight different possible growth paths that are possible at Synchrony.
About the Framework
Career development is a partnership between the employee, manager and our organization. This partnership means that you’re supported and heard at every step of your career journey, with the understanding that it is your journey to own. Initially launched in 2016, our Career Growth Framework has been updated to include more information and guidance so there can be growth for all. The Career Growth Framework is built on a foundation of each employee performing in their roles, living the Synchrony values and cultivating their network.

Defining Your Career Ambitions
The first thing we ask you to do is assess where you are in your career and where you want to be in the future. At Synchrony, you truly own your own career. You set the vision and decide the path and pace that gets you there.
Always Learning
There is a model backed by learning and development research that says that 70% of learning comes from hands-on experience, 20% comes from collaborating with peers, and 10% of training or learning. That’s why we place such an emphasis on our employees broadening their experience and embracing curiosity – it’s the most effective way to grow! What makes our framework unique are our Critical Experiences, which are immersive learning experiences that challenge individuals to think differently and develop deep expertise. These can be expanded in-role responsibilities, a new position, lateral moves or out-of-role enrichment opportunities like Hub leadership opportunities, strategic projects or stretch assignments.
We offer many paths to learning and development to meet your individual goals. You can use Tuition Assistance to help you further your career through formal education and certifications. We also offer a robust curriculum of online and in-person classes.
