Role Summary/Purpose:
The Vice President, India Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Citizenship Programs takes the lead role in running day-to-day management of the Company’s charitable efforts in India. This includes managing the Education as an Equalizer program, responsibility for the CSR budget allocation per The Companies Act and India related spends of Synchrony Foundation, overseeing the company-sponsored volunteer activities and leveraging best practices, metrics, reporting, and program communications. This role works closely with the Corporate Citizenship and Synchrony Foundation team on development and execution of programs.
The VP, India CSR and Citizenship Programs is an expert planner and project manager and is responsible for creating new opportunities, implementing new community and employee initiatives, and serving as an advisor to all business units on CSR and Citizenship in India.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Manage key programs of Synchrony citizenship, including Education as an Equalizer and is responsible for the CSR budget allocation per Companies Act and executing the activities of the CSR committee in partnership with Finance & Corporate citizenship. This role is also responsible for the India related spends of Synchrony Foundation working in sync with corporate citizenship leadership, through activities including
- Collaborations and partnership with ERGs
- Liaise with NGOs
- Research and vet NGOs to the highest standards
- Maximize and elevate impact of initiatives by focusing our efforts across NGOs
- Oversee, review and analyze data and impact reports from NGOs
- Assist to create, build and amplify financial education initiatives with employees and in our communities
- Monitoring and compliance
- Responsible for awareness, proficiency and adherence to laws, rules and regulations of CSR activities in India, including Section 135 of The Companies Act, 2013
- Monitor Agencies to ensure SYF follows the Ministry of Corporate Affairs guidelines.
- Understand the utilization of funds as per the disbursement plan of the schedules.
- Process the legal requirements which are required for projects/events
- Employee Volunteering & interface with employees
- Create, enhance and offer employee volunteer initiatives; act as a SME for all volunteer activities in India including in the regional engagement hubs.
- Manage Employee Emergency Relief Fund; collect data and analyze program
- Manage the SYF Volunteer Portal
- Thought leadership & External interface
- Manage relationships with international donor-advised funds to manage donations from the U.S. to India and the Philippines
- Assist with presentations and content creation for meetings, Town Halls and Synchrony and Synchrony Foundation board materials
- Oversee affirmative action and equal employment opportunity activities across all CSR and foundation projects.
- Being an SME and go-to person for all CSR initiatives across Synchrony India ERGs and functional spends to orchestrate efforts, avoid duplication and maximize the impact as collective contributions and in a planful, intentional manner.
- Internal and External communications
- Develop, write and support execution of strategic external/internal communication (company emails, annual reports, papers, social media posts etc.); Prepare quarterly, and annual newsletter with CSR activities
- Enable building our brand as a socially responsible employer in the talent and broader community.
- Reporting
- Create and manage the Corporate Citizenship/Foundations/CSR data and historical dashboards
- Assist India finance in any reporting to be done as a part of the Quarterly meeting cadence of the CSR committee.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Graduate in any discipline with 6- 8 years + of progressive nonprofit experience, corporate foundation or business experience.
- 5+ years of project management and strategic partnering
- Proficient knowledge of laws, rules and regulations of CSR activities in India, including Section 135 of The Companies Act, 2013
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong reporting and data analytics skills
- Strong proficiency with MS Teams, Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and other management tools
- Strong knowledge of and interest in community service and charitable initiatives

Work Timings:
- This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility and Choice offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs.
