Organizational Overview:
The Data Platform Engineer reports into the Cloud platform Organization under the CTO organization
Role Summary/Purpose:
Synchrony Financial is transforming the way we deliver IT Services, and with that we have a new opening for a VP, Cloud Engineer – Platform. The Cloud Engineer will serve the vital lead role in implementing and running Cloud Data/Caching Platforms, and lead key critical components of the ramp up of cloud services. The qualified candidate is expected to have deep technical knowledge of Cloud Platforms, developed from previous experience in deploying such solutions in production environments. This position is remote, where you have the option to work from home. On occasion we may request for you to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for the dependability and scalability of the enterprise data caching platform service comprised of Gemfire and Kafka
-
Design and develop scalable and reliable real-time stream processing solutions using Kafka along with Caching solutions for real-time applications.

Provide expertise and hands on experience working with Kafka brokers and Kafka connectors

Develop and lead the reliability process to ensure the highest level of systems availability, stability, security and performance, including maintenance and support, root cause analysis, systems validation, performance tuning and capacity management
-
Establish a root cause analysis program that will lead to reduced downtime, increased resiliency and a culture of continuous improvement

Design and implement monitoring, alerting and appropriate metrics (SLO’s, SLI’s) to track and report service SLAs, performance and operational efficiency

Work on capacity management related investments based on growth pattern.

Communicate to senior management details of the incident and impacts to the business

Deliver outstanding communication (written and verbal) during incidents and follows up with RCA and problem management corrective actions

Increase the ability of the network team to proactively identify issues before the user community does

Partner with the engineering and application teams to ensure data Platforms can support any new technologies that are deployed

Create topics, setup redundancy cluster, deploy monitoring tools, alerts and has good knowledge of best practices.

Provide expertise and hands on experience working with Gemfire creating Regions and performance tuning environments.

Work directly with business partners to translate complex functional and technical requirements for streaming data ingestion solutions into detailed design & implementation plans

Work closely with EA and cross-functional technical resources to devise and recommend solutions based on the understood requirements

Work closely with Platform Engineering team to analyze complex distributed production deployments, and make recommendations to optimize performance and reliability

Work with Production Support to assist with troubleshooting service stability, message topic or delivery issues, perform data related benchmarking, performance analysis and tuning.
Required Skills/Knowledge:

Bachelor's degree with minimum 10+ years of IaaS experience (vSphere / ESXi / AWS / OpenStack / Azure / GCP) or in lieu of a degree 12+years of IaaS experience (vSphere / ESXi / AWS / OpenStack / Azure / GCP).

Strong business focus, which includes the ability to collect and analyze VOC (voice of customer) data and match service to requirements

Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, and Perl)

Monitoring technologies

Competence in using scripting, programming and automation languages to automate frequently executed activities
-
Strong ITIL management process knowledge and experience and/or certification
-
Demonstrated skills in oral, written and interpersonal communication, and promote open communication among teams

Experience with managing impact of compliance regulations

Demonstrated customer focus – evaluates decisions through the eyes of the customer; builds strong customer relationships; creates processes with customer viewpoint; partners with customers to help shape their future initiatives

4+ year Streaming Technology Experience
Eligibility Criteria:
Bachelor's degree with minimum 10+ years of IaaS experience (vSphere / ESXi / AWS / OpenStack / Azure / GCP) or in lieu of a degree 12+years of IaaS experience (vSphere / ESXi / AWS / OpenStack / Azure / GCP).
WORK TIMINGS: This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility and Choice offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs.
